Academic Slavery
I am bound in academic slavery, I am indeed a prisoner
If I could I would escape but I’ve received a four year sentence
Only then can I fly like a bird
I am bound in academic slavery, I am indeed a prisoner
My parents have no inheritance to leave me
Neither have any of my many relatives
My only hope is this academic slavery
To which I have sold my unfortunate brain
For if I served my sentence, I am promised a paradise in a land called the workplace
Four years and I’ll receive a piece of paper
That proves that I’ve truly served my sentence in full
Until then I have to endure the forced labour
Of lectures, tutorials, ADPs, supplementary instruction and more
I have to read, write, blog and do endless presentations
Assignments, tests, exercises and worst of all exams
I am bound in academic slavery, I am indeed a prisoner
The jail wardens keep a constant eye on me
The deans, lecturers, guest lecturers and more of their kind
I am attacked from all sides, who will receive my report?
My parents say the slavery is necessary and the government concurs with them
It is condoned by all the citizens of the world, there can be no escape
So I will be a man and serve out my full sentence
From lectures to supplementary instruction I will go to all the rehabilitation programs
From assignments to exams I will do all the forced labour
For I am in academic slavery, I am indeed a prisoner
