As I was checking my mail, I saw a message from students request. Apparently, two female drama students were robbed while rehearsing late at night in the Drama department. Fortunately, they were not harmed. But still, they had a close escape.
I’m totally for the feminist movement. I believe women can match and even surpass men’s abilities. But in terms of self protection, I beg to differ. I’ve realised that ladies are the most victimised in violent incidences on crime on this campus. I have not heard of a male student being raped. As such, I think it is upon us guys to make sure our sisters are protected. Some people study best late at night. The other day I saw a lady coming out of the 24hr library around 3. She lives up the hill. I felt it necessary to offer her the pleasure of my company for security reasons. It would be great if all guys could do the same. But it’s also dangerous because some might take advantage.
I believe most ladies have at least one male friend. It would be safe if every lady would make sure she has a male friend whom she knows and trusts if she has to do something on campus at odd hours. Guys, these are our sisters. Let’s protect them. And ladies, please take safety precautions always. I know every gender is affected, but women suffer the most.
