Love is a Many Splendored Thing

Whenever I think of courtship I sigh with fond memories. Dating today is (as my mother always points out) very different from days gone by. Here at Rhodes, it’s all about playing it cool. Chances are that one day even the most stony-hearted cynics will find someone that catches their eye and the game is on. First, you don’t want that person to even suspect that you like them and so you resort to getting information about them from your friends to lay low. Maybe you might slip in a casual greeting or hug but that is it. What is it about us that makes us so afraid of feeling something for someone? To me, humans are emotional beings that have such a great capacity for love but we just don’t know how to execute it. However, when we do find it, we think of ways to get rid of it because it’s just so overwhelming. My one friend back home was forever single by choice because she was afraid of getting to close to someone. Why? It is because when you have something as wonderful as a love between you and someone else you are afraid that you will lose it. I empathise with those that have loved and lost but those who shy away from love because they are afraid to get hurt are cowards. Not only that but they are missing something as natural and as terrific as love. At least those who tried love and lost love took the chance. What’s more is that you will always love again and what does not kill you makes you stronger. So if you are one of those people who get into the pool of love one toe at a time I dare you to dive right in. The water is great.
